Democrats for Mitt!

This is a rather brilliant, and especially funny, campaign commercial encouraging Michigan Democrats to cross over their party lines and vote for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney. The reason for this is to give Romney the win in Michigan, and allow him to continue his campaign in attacking the other presidential candidates (That means you Johnny-boy!). Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas has been pushing this strategy of helping Romney win Michigan so that the GOP could continue their own circular firing squad. Well now we have this fun little political campaign commercial coming out from YouTube:



I should point out that the Democratic Party stripped Michigan of its delegates in punishment for moving its primary up to January 15th, violating Democratic Party rules in prohibiting "states other than Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina from holding nominating contests before Feb. 5." So in a sense, Michigan's delegates are "uncommitted." However, Hillary Rodham Clinton, Dennis Kucinich, Chris Dodd, and Mike Gravel still remain on the Democratic ballot, with John Edwards, Barack Obama, Bill Richardson and Joe Biden withdrawing their names in order to satisfy Iowa and New Hampshire's complaints about Michigan's moving its state primary to the earlier date. What does this mean? Michigan Democrats have a choice between choosing Clinton, or the uncommitted for Michigan's Democratic delegates. What Markos is trying to say is that while Michigan's delegates will not be represented in the Democratic convention, Michigan Democrats should have some fun in crossing over party lines and keep Romney in the GOP race. Markos wants to throw a monkey wrench into the Michigan GOP primary. According to a McClatchy News / MSNBC News poll, Romney has a slight lead over McCain, 30 percent to 22 percent, with Mike Huckabee trailing in third place at 17 percent. This is going to be another fun race to watch on the GOP side, considering that Huckabee won Iowa, McCain won New Hampshire, and Romney could win Michigan. Toss in Rudy Giuliani's last-ditch stand campaigning in Florida (Could Giuliani win Florida?), and you've got a huge, wide-open race going into Super Duper Tuesday, with none of the GOP candidates in a front-running position.
