Obama's "Yes We Can" or John Boehner's "Hell No, You Can't"? Whom you'll Listen?

This is just totally frickin' brilliant. From YouTube:

Something tells me we're going to see a lot of Senator John Boehner's "HELL NO, you can't!"

Tuesday Music Video--You Know My Name by Chris Cornell

It has been a while since I've posted a music video. And with the new James Bond movie Quantum of Solace coming out, perhaps it is time to go back to the days of Casino Royale and Chris Cornell's You Know My Name. From YouTube:

Tuesday Night Music Video--REM's It's the End of the World

With the insanity of Wall Street jitters and presidential campaign jangles, I think it is a great time for a music video. And what is a better way to celebrate such jitters and jangles than REM's It's the End of the World. From YouTube:

And I feel fine.

Friday Night Fun Stuff--Lady Marmalade from Moulin Rouge

For tonight's Friday Fun Stuff, how about a gaudy music video featuring Christina Aguilera, Pink, Missy Elliot, Mya, and Lil' Kim--we're talking Lady Marmalade from the movie Moulin Rouge. Lady Marmalade was originally recorded by Patti Labelle with her R&B/Soul group Labelle. The original song topped the Bilboard Hot 100 singles chart in the U.S. during the week of March 23 to March 29, 1975. The Moulin Rouge re-recording of Lady Marmalade also became a number-one hit on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 for the second time, reaching number one in its eighth week and staying there for five weeks at the top position from May 27 to June 30, 2001. So let's have some gaudy fun for this spring weekend. From YouTube:

Friday Night Fun Stuff--Billy Idol is Dancing with Myself

I had a little trouble trying to find something to post for Friday Fun Stuff. So I decided to log into YouTube, and I found this little blast from the Generation X past--Billy Idol singing Dancing with Myself. The song was originally released by the punk rock band Generation X in 1981, which contained only two members from the original line-up--Tony James and Billy Idol. Billy Idol adapted the song to a more pop-friendly version for his solo album, which then went gold in 1983. Looking back at the song now, it has a fun beat that makes you want to just get up and dance. The music video, however, is a little strange. Is that Billy dancing with himself, in a post-nuclear holocaust, controlling pogo-dancing zombies with his electrifying power? Someone was smoking something strange back then.

So here is Billy Idol, Dancing with Myself. From YouTube:

Friday Fun Stuff--Genesis' Land of Confusion

For this crazy week, it might be nice to take a little political historical trip back into time with Genesis, and their 1986 music video Land of Confusion. Yes, that is the Republican Patron Saint Ronny Reagan in full puppet mode, with Bonzo at his side. See if you can recognize the rest of the 1980s celebrities in this YouTube video:

Friday Night Music Videos--A celebration of McCain as the GOP nominee

For tonight, I thought it would be appropriate to celebrate Senator John McCain's eventual nomination as the Republican Party's candidate for president. Yes, John McCain won the GOP nomination because enough conservatives believed that he would be the best choice to defeat the evil al Qaeda terrorists, and the protect the U.S. homeland. In fact, John McCain so wants to protect us from the evil al Qaeda terrorists, that he is willing to keep the Bush administration's failed U.S. war in Iraq going for another 100 years. And to show just how much McCain wants to protect us by keeping us into a continuous war, check out this YouTube video:

And so, in celebration of our new 100-year, pro-war candidate, I think it is only appropriate to present Mr. 100-Year-War with this lovely music video of Edwin Starr's War, updated with images of the U.S. war in Iraq. From YouTube:

You can bet that we're going to see even more of these images if Mr. 100-Year-War get's elected into the White House.

Friday Night Music--Kiss From a Rose by Seal

I found this wonderful Batman Forever music video of Seal's Kiss From a Rose, created by YouTube user Elderpredator. It is actually better than the original Batman Forever music video. The witching hour sounds like a great time to play this video. From YouTube:

Great video for such a wonderfully haunting song.

Sunday Night Double Feature Music--War by Edwin Starr, and War Pigs by Black Sabbath

I can't sleep tonight, so I thought I would give a little Sunday Night Double Feature Music Videos in honor of General David Petraeus' non-report, which will be more Bush White House PR-spin to continue the unending U.S. war in Iraq. And so General, I present these two songs in honor of your diminished status as a Bush lacky for continuing to sent young Americans into the meat grinder we call Iraq. And I'm sure that the Bush administration will be sending the U.S. into war with Iran--if puppetmaster Dick Cheney has anything to say about this. Our first song here is a good one--War by Edwin Starr. From YouTube:

Of course General, you deserve two songs in your honor here. For you see, we've been told that this Petraeus report was to be the definitive report as to whether Iraq has made enough security and political progress to continue the Bush surge. It hasn't. So you will go before Congress and spin some Bush PR-crap about how we're still winning the war in Iraq, even though both the GAO report and the National Intelligence Estimate is showing that the Iraqi government is failing to secure the country and enact political reforms. So here is another song for you, and the entire Bush administration--War Pigs by Black Sabbath. Because I'm sure that you and President Bush, will both show yourselves to be the complete pigs when you both wallow into PR-cheerleading for the unending continuation of this disastrous war. From YouTube:

And more young Americans will be ground into hamburger....

Thursday Night Music--Luciano Pavarotti singing Nessun Dorma

I just have to give a little tribute to Luciano Pavarotti--one of the great opera singers, probably of all time. Pavarotti died early Thursday at the age of 71. According to MSNBC News:

While Pavarotti moved the world with what one admirer called “the last, great voice” of Italian opera, his legacy went beyond the opera house. The tenor collaborated with classical singers and pop icons alike to bring opera to the masses, rescuing the art from highbrow obscurity in the process.

In many ways, Pavarotti fulfilled the public’s imagination of what an opera star should be. He often wore a colorful scarf and a hat, be it a fedora or a beret, and while he didn’t always have a beard, it was hard to imagine him without it. His heft — as well as a restaurant on his property in Modena — belied his gourmet appetite.

But above all, his crystal clear voice, prized for its diction, made him the most celebrated tenor since Caruso. “Pavarotti was the last great Italian voice able to move the world,” said Bruno Cagli, president of the Santa Cecilia National Academy in Rome.

So here is Pavarotti moving the world with the song Nessun Dorma, performed live in Paris in 1998. From YouTube:

Let's hope the Pearly Gates don't come crashing down when Pavarotti shows up.

Friday Night Music--Somebody to Love by Jefferson Airplane

Since we seem to be stuck in a time warp of the late 1960s to early 70s (Can you say Iraq equates to Vietnam? Today's potential stagflation with the 1970s stagflation? Tax cuts in the middle of a war?), I thought it would be fun to bring back some Woodstock. Here is Grace Slick from Jefferson Airplane performing Somebody to Love at Woodstock, 1969. From YouTube:

Doesn't get any better than that.

Friday Night Fun Stuff--One of the Living by Tina Turner

This is a wonderful song, combining elements of a haunting melody with hard rock. It is certainly one of my favorite Tina Turner songs, where the opening melody plays slowly in the back of my mind. The song is One of the Living, from the soundtrack to the movie Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. From YouTube:

In the desert sun, every step that you take could be the final one
In the burning heat, hanging on the edge of destruction
You can't stop the pain of your children crying out in your head
They always said that the living would envy the dead

Sunday Night Music--Kashmir by Led Zeppelin

Let's play some Sunday Night Music here with the great Led Zeppelin performing "Kashmir." This is a studio-produced video from Led Zeppelin's 'Latter Days' compilation, using footage from the May 24th and 25th, 1975 Earls Court concerts in London. From YouTube:

Oh, let the sun beat down upon my face
And stars fill my dream
I'm a traveler of both time and space
To be where I have been
To sit with elders of the gentle race
This world has seldom seen
They talk of days for which they sit and wait
All will be revealed

Saturday Night Music--Real Gone by Sheryl Crow

Finished watching the Disney movie Cars with my five-year-old niece. The music for the opening credits of cars is Sheryl Crow's Real Gone. It is such a great song for the movie. So for a little Saturday night music, I found this YouTube music video created by Jtrait. Call it an unauthorized music video from the movie Cars:

Slow down, you're gonna crash,
Baby you're a-screaming it's a blast, blast, blast
Look out, you've got your blinders on
Everybody's looking for a way to get real gone
Real gone.

Friday Night Fun Stuff--Disney's Alice in Wonderland to Jefferson Airplane

This is fun. It is a music video using clips from the Disney movie Alice in Wonderland, playing to Jefferson Airplane's White Rabbit. From YouTube:

And here is another one from a different perspective:

What a disturbing movie. I wonder if Lewis Carroll experimented with some mushrooms as he was writing Alice in Wonderland?
