U.S.: 3 Gitmo inmates hanged themselves

This is crazy! From Yahoo News:

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Three Guantanamo Bay detainees hanged themselves with nooses made of sheets and clothes, the commander of the detention center said Saturday. They were the first reported deaths among the hundreds of men held at the base for years without charge.

The suicides, which military officials said were coordinated, triggered further condemnation of the isolated detention center, which holds some 460 men on suspicion of links to al-Qaida and the Taliban. Only 10 have been charged with crimes and there has been growing international pressure on the U.S. to close the prison.

Two men from Saudi Arabia and one from Yemen were found dead shortly after midnight Saturday in separate cells, said the Miami-based U.S. Southern Command, which has jurisdiction over the prison. Attempts were made to revive them, but they failed.

"They hung themselves with fabricated nooses made out of clothes and bed sheets," Navy Rear Adm. Harry Harris told reporters in a conference call from the U.S. base in southeastern Cuba.

"They have no regard for human life," he said. "Neither ours nor their own. I believe this was not an act of desperation but an act of asymmetric warfare against us."

This was an act of warfare against the United States? Has Admiral Harris been drinking spiked Kool-Aid down in Gitmo? This is frickin' insane.

These inmates hung themselves because they have lost all hope within this Americanized version of a concentration camp--in other words, they lost their will to live. These inmates have been taken to Gitmo to be locked up and rotted away. I doubt that they have had any legal counsel, nor have they been actually charged with any crimes, allowed to stand trial, cross examine witnesses, review any evidence against them, confront their accusers, or any other legal recourse. The Bush administration declares these inmates "enemy combatants," as a means to circumvent the Geneva Conventions and not allow these inmates any rights as "prisoners of war." You can bet these inmates have been tortured at Gitmo. And you can bet that after 3 years of incarceration, the Bush administration would not want to release these inmates, even if they were found to be innocent of any crimes or terrorism. For once released, these inmates would probably turn around to become terrorists to fight against the U.S. after having to experience the Hell they went through--courtesy of the Bush White House. And now we've got this Admiral Harris claiming that these three inmates are still fighting their war against the U.S. by hanging themselves?

What is in that spiked Kool-Aid?
