One thing you can say about the late 1940s cartoons is that they really make fun of the classical pianist concert scene. Two perfect examples would be Bugs Bunny's Rhapsody Rabbit and Tom and Jerry's The Cat Concerto. In both of these cartoons, Bugs and Tom play famous classical pianists who get into a little tit-for-tat with a couple of mice (Jerry, of course, being Tom's foe). And the comedy ensues. Both cartoons play the same piano concert recital Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 by Franz Liszt. And interestingly enough, Rhapsody Rabbit lost out to The Cat Concerto in the 1946 Academy Awards Best Short Subject: Cartoons. Which is the better cartoon? You decide.
Bugs Bunny in Rhapsody Rabbit:
Tom and Jerry in The Cat Concerto:
Personally, I think they are both equally brilliant.
