DeLay Abandons Bid to Remain House Leader

Folks, I think it is time for another exciting episode of The Tom DeLay Comedy Hour! Starring your favorite congressman, and mine--TOM DELAY! This is from The Washington Post:

Rep. Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) today abandoned his bid to remain House majority leader, bowing to pressure from a growing number of fellow House Republicans who wanted a permanent leadership change because of his indictment on campaign finance charges.

"The job of majority leader and the mandate of the Republican majority are too important to be hamstrung, even for a few months, by personal distractions," DeLay wrote in a letter to House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.). In a separate letter to House Republicans, DeLay said that during his time in Congress, "I have always acted in an ethical manner within the rules of our body and the laws of our land. I am fully confident time will bear this out."

Poor Tom DeLay. He had to abandon his bid as House Majority Leader. Of course, DeLay always acted in an ethical manner--the money laundering of corporate and national Republican party donations into Texas state GOP candidates through PACs and DeLay-controlled charities, his gerrymandering of the Texas State Legislature that gave the GOP a permanent majority at the expense of several Democratic seats, the gifts and party favors given to him by his buddy Jack Abramoff. Can you say golfing in Scotland, or fun-filled-fact-finding mission to the Marianas? No--Tom DeLay was always a good, honest, God-fearing, pro-family, Congressman who has always acted in an ethical manner. Why do we know this? Because Tom DeLay just told us so. Everything that has happened to poor Tom DeLay is the result of a vast, left-wing, secret conspiracy between the Democrats, the liberal media, anti-war groups, the Sierra Club, PETA, the feminazies, anti-war demonstrators, Cindy Sheehan, and whoever else you can think of.

By the way, have you seen a flying pig come by here?
