Daily Headliners--House passes war funding bill, Immigration and War Poll, More Monica, Bush and the Bird, Bush claims U.S. fighting for our children

The big news today will be the Democrats capitulation to President Bush's war funding demands. You can bet that over the Memorial Day weekend, the Democratic congress-critters are going to get a major spanking from their constituents at home.

House Approves War-Funding Bill: This WaPost headline says it all. The bill passed 280-142, and is now being taken up in the Senate. Here is the record of the House vote.

Majority Favor Changing Immigration Laws, Poll Says: This is a CBS News/New York Times poll showing a majority of Americans wanting to allow "illegal immigrants to gain legal status and to create a new guest worker program." The results of the poll can be found here. There are also some poll results regarding public opinion on Iraq, which can be found through CBS here.

Summary of Monica Goodling's testimoney: TPM Muckraker has got a great Must-Read story which summarizes former White House liaison Monica Goodling's testimoney yesterday.

Even the Birds Show their Disapproval to Bush: Think Progress has the poop scoop of a bird dropping its load on President Bush's sleeve during his outdoor press conference today. The video is already up on YouTube;

Bush Tells Reporters that Terrorists are a Threat to their Children: I found this through both Crooks and Liars, and TPM Cafe. At this morning's press conference, NBC's David Gregory asked President Bush why anyone should view Bush as credible regarding the Iraq war. Bush replied, "They are a threat to your children, David." When The New York Times's Jim Rutenberg asked Bush why Osama bin Laden is still at large, Bush provided a stock terrorism answer with this final comment, "It's a danger to your children, Jim." Here is the YouTube video:

I'm guessing this is the new Bush PR-talking point for why we should be fighting the war in Iraq--because it is a danger to our children. But are the young American soldiers, who are fighting and dying in Iraq, also our children?
