Friday Fun Stuff--Miss USA falls down in Miss Universe 2007 pageant

Okay, let's start this Friday Fun Stuff off with a little USA Today back-story on the 2007 Miss Universe pageant:

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Riyo Mori, a 20-year-old dancer from Japan who hopes to someday open an international dance school, was crowned Miss Universe 2007 Monday night.

Miss USA Rachel Smith, who slipped and fell to the floor during the evening gown competition and was jeered by the Mexican audience during the interview phase, was the contest's fourth runner-up.

And here is the YouTube video of this famous fall:

One thing I will say is that Rachel Smith recovered quickly from her evening gown tumble, and kept her smile for the entire embarrassing moment. It is a rather comedic moment, when considering how these pageants are so choreographed. And I'm not too thrilled that the Mexican audience jeered Smith during the interview phase--keep the politics and anti-Americanism out of these pageants, and just enjoy the beauty of these women.
