McCain's "spiritual guide" calls for destruction of Islam

I guess it is no big secret that Arizona Senator John McCain has sought out the Religious Right's support for his GOP presidential bid. However, it really gets interesting when you see just how insane some of these religious leaders are that McCain is pandering to. Take Reverend Rod Parsley for example. Mother Jones has a short YouTube video showing McCain praising Parsley as his "spiritual guide," even as Parsley has called for Christians to "destroy Islam." From YouTube:

What I find rather ironic here is how McCain criticized Democratic Senator Barack Obama over the remarks made by Jeremiah Wright without taking into account his own relationships with both Parsley and John Hagee. McCain sought out Hagee's endorsement, even as Hagee claimed that Hurricane Katrina was God's punishment for a gay right's parade in New Orleans. McCain attempted to distance himself from Hagee's comments, before half-heartily admitting that seeking out Hagee's endorsement was a mistake. And even though McCain admits his error of seeking Hagee's endorsement, McCain is still "glad to have his [Hagee's] endorsement." Obama had to denounce Wright's controversial statements.

Do you see the hypocrisy here? It is a controversy against the Democrats if liberal religious leaders make insane statements, but it is okay for the GOP if conservative religious leaders make their own insane statements. What is worst is that Obama had to deal with the political fallout of a single religious leader's statements, while McCain is happily getting endorsements from two insane religious leaders. And these are leaders who are calling for death and destruction of people who do not conform to their extremist, religious views--be it gays, Muslims, atheists, liberals, or anyone else that will not send money to their over-bloated religious-themed, corporate empires. It is disgusting.

And now McCain is calling Parsley his "spiritual guide," even as Parsley is calling for the destruction of Islam. The pandering that McCain gives to these right-wing nutjobs is just amazing. And John McCain doesn't care because this is the only way to buy the vote of the religious conservative wing of the Republican Party. This really shows just the extent of the Religious Right's influence and control of the Republican Party, and how the GOP presidential candidate John McCain needs to pander to their every wish.

Do you really want these nutjobs in control of the White House for another four to eight years?

One more little note, I found another YouTube video clip of Parsley's greatest hits on the unhinged statements scene through The Carpetbagger Report. From YouTube:

The madness continues.
