Friday Fun Stuff--Political Humor

U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris, R-Fla. gestures as she speaks to supporters in this July 6, 2006 file photo, in the Little Havana section of Miami. U.S. Senate candidate Katherine Harris received a grand jury subpoena from federal investigators but kept it from her top campaign advisers, leading to the latest round of staff departures July, former campaign manager Glenn Hodas told The Tampa Tribune for a story published Wednesday Aug. 2, 2006. I saw this story, and I just had to crack a smile. After all the crap that has been thrown onto Republican Katherine Harris' wreak of a campaign for the Florida Senate seat, she still believes that she can win the seat--even though she's trailing Democratic senator Bill Nelson by double digits. So here's the Yahoo News story, titled Rep. Katherine Harris predicts Senate win:

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Gov. Jeb Bush doesn't think U.S. Rep. Katherine Harris (news, bio, voting record) can beat Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson (news, bio, voting record). Neither does the state Republican Party leadership, nor her three former campaign managers.

That doesn't matter to Harris. Despite a week of bad news for her floundering campaign, she believes the others are wrong.

"We'll win, so don't listen to the prognosticators, or the pollsters — you can make a poll say anything you want," Harris said Thursday at a luncheon. "Don't be discouraged. We've done it before. We'll do it again."

Earlier this week, a letter from state Republican Party leaders was disclosed that said they could not support Harris because she can't win. Also, former campaign staff revealed that Harris didn't tell them the campaign received a subpoena as part of a federal corruption investigation.

She says she's not paying attention.

"Every Republican event I go to, I get their overwhelming support," Harris said afterward. "When people hear our message and they know what we stand for, rather than all the caricatures that are created, then we know we're going to win."

Personally, I would be shocked if Harris does pull an upset. I would also be wondering how much coke the people in the state of Florida have been sniffing while wishing for the good ole days of Miami Vice? Hey, if Michael Mann can do a big screen movie remake of Miami Vice with Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx, then why can't it snow in Miami Florida during Katherine Harris' senate victory parade?

Katherine Harris is not going to give up--no matter what the polls or pundits will say. Sort of reminds me of this little political cartoon:

Say Katherine, what is that poll behind you?
