CREW: Millions of White House emails have been deleted

I found this through TMP Muckraker, and it is just astounding! This is from The Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington:

In a startling new revelation, CREW has also learned through two confidential sources that the Executive Office of the President (EOP) has lost over five million emails generated between March 2003 and October 2005. The White House counsel’s office was advised of these problems in 2005 and CREW has been told that the White House was given a plan of action to recover these emails, but to date nothing has been done to rectify this significant loss of records.

This story is also being reported in Americablog, Think Progress, Crooks and Liars, and Daily Kos. Five million email letters were deleted, and the Bush White House has not done anything yet to recover these emails. It is rather ironic that as we find out about this latest story on the missing emails, the Bush White House acknowledges that they may also be missing some emails regarding the attorney purge scandal. Congress needs to start issuing subpoenas on the White House emails, the email servers, and the backup tapes before the administration attempts to delete everything they can in order to hide their corruption. And the subpoenas shouldn't stop at just the Bush White House. Congress also needs to issue subpoenas on the Republican National Committee email servers, hard drives, and backup tapes as well, in order to recover the emails from the RNC email accounts that the White House staffers have been using to circumvent White House security and documentation measures. It has already started with the Senate Judiciary Committee issuing subpoenas against the White House emails. Now both the Senate and the House must expand their investigation into this Bush White House corruption and gather all of these emails from both the White House and the Republican National Committee.
