WASHINGTON (July 12) - The White House is suddenly facing damaging evidence that it misled the public by insisting for two years that presidential adviser Karl Rove wasn't involved in leaking the identity of a female CIA officer.
President Bush, at an Oval Office photo opportunity Tuesday, was asked directly whether he would fire Rove - in keeping with a pledge in June, 2004, to dismiss any leakers in the case. The president did not respond.
For the second day, White House press secretary Scott McClellan refused to answer questions about Rove.
So the blood is in the water.
Karl Rove certainly leaked Valerie Plame's name to Time reporter Matt Cooper. But Cooper had published his story after conservative columnist Robert Novak first leaked Plame's name in his column. The big question that I want to know is who leaked Valerie Plame's name to Robert Novak? Was Karl Rove also responsible for the original Novak leak? Was it someone in Dick Cheney's office? Find who's responsible for that original leak, and you'll have found the key linking the lies, the vindictiveness and the corruption to the Bush White House.
Let's hope the press starts to dig hard now. I want to know who leaked Plame's name to Novak!
